Embroidery Takes Too Long To Do

Embroidery Takes Too Long To Do draws on the veneers of everyday life that sustain and support the culture of the quick fix. Each work embeds text appropriated from self-help book titles that I hve come across whilst browsing through bookshops. As an artist and consumer, I am seduced by time saving devices and short cuts within my own life and art practice.

The title of this series of sculptures stems from my original intention to create laboured art objects out of sewn thread. Through a lack of patience, I found myself frustrated by the fact that my own hand stitching couldn’t keep up with the pace at which I wanted to communicate. Also, my efforts to craft a fine and detailed surface, created a knotted and illegible underside to the embroidery. It is the paradox of this on-going tension that motivated this body of work.
