Playback Kandos Museum for Cementa 24

Invitation to participate Playback Kandos Museum is an art project that invites you to listen to a narration of an object and then translate it into material form. The project is framed by a recorded description of a selected item from the Kandos Museum collection. Playback creates a space for attention and intention. Through the actions of listening, interpreting and re-making, each rendition will contribute a unique reading of that object, re-told through the kinks of perception and lived experience. Each edition is made signature by the maker’s hand, expressing their relationship to material and social expression.

Playback Kandos Museum was devised for the Cementa artist-in residency program. All works made in response to Playback Kandos Museum will be considered for exhibition at Cementa 24.

How can I participate? Everyone is invited to participate in Playback Kandos Museum. The description of the object includes dimensions, methods of construction and materials used. You can re-make the object using techniques that are accessible to you. If you like to knit, paint, collage, weld, sew, bake, draw or just have a go at assembling things, your take on the project is welcome.

Kids version An abridged kid-friendly version below (recommended for 10 years +).

What will happen to my work? All contributing works responding to Playback Kandos Museum are considered for exhibition as part of the Cementa arts festival in September 2024. Arrangements will be made for the delivery and storage of each creation on completion. Just get in touch via the contact page. Contributions need to be received by 1 July 2024.

All participants will be acknowledged as co-creators of the project at the festival and on the artist website. An agreement with each participant will be made to confirm whether they would like their work returned to them after exhibition and how they would like to be acknowledged If you have any questions about participating please make contact here and I will get back to you.
